Magnetic Property Measurement System (SQUID)

Location:
Dell Bucher 160

The Magnetic Property Measuring System (MPMS) System is fitted with a Superconducting Quantum Interference Device (SQUID) attachment (SEA #412) for measuring the magnetization of samples as a function of DC magnetic field or temperature, which is operator selectable and adjustable.  AC magnetic suseptibility measurement is also possible.

The magnetic field range is from -7 tesla (-70,000 Oersted) to  7 tesla (70,000 Oersted). Sample temperature range is 300 Kelvin down to 2 Kelvin.

The MPMS SQUID is now upgraded to a so-called EverCool system, with which users no longer need to monitor and record liquid helium consumption and pay the instrument fee and the liquid helium separately. A single user fee listed below will apply.

PLEASE RESERVE INSTRUMENT TIME ON THE FOM WEB SITE CALENDAR   https://fom.rice.edu/fom    THE CALENDAR ON THIS SITE IS NO LONGER ACTIVE.

Contact Dr. Jianhua Li at 713-348-2399 or email:  jianhua.li@rice.edu  for training and access. This instrument requires two sessions of training. The first session will be general instrutions on hardware and software, and the second session will be supervised practice. The two seesions must be completed within three weeks. A third session may be needed if the SEA staff determines so based on the trainee's performance in the second session.
