The LTQ-Orbitrap system is equipped with ESI, nanoESI, and APCI sources. The LTQ-Orbitrap is a hybrid ion trap- FT (Fourier Transform) mass spectrometer capable of performing MS/MS experiments and making accurate mass measurements (maximum mass resolving power is 100,000 @ m/z 400). This system is interfaced with a Shimadzu Prominence UPLC system. It is capable of performing analysis of synthetic compounds (ie. small molecules, synthetic peptides, impurity profiling, etc.) and biomolecules (ie. natural products, metabolites, peptides, proteins, oilgonucleotides, etc.). The primary role of this instrument in the Rice Core MS facility is as a proteomics platform. For the purposes of performing protein identification, data from analysis of proteolytic digests can be subjected to database searching using our MASCOT server. This instrument is currently operated by facility staff. It is used for performing service work and running collaboration projects.
